FREE TAX PREP ACROSS PASCO COUNTY: VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) PROGRAM

VITA Volunteers Needed:

We are looking for folks to become Preparers and Greeters at our VITA Program which takes place January-April 2025. Make a difference for elderly and lower income residents of Pasco! Sign Up for as many hours and weeks as you are able.Tax Experience is not required, as you will become IRS Certified and Trained!

Who Can Qualify for the VITA Program

  • Pasco County Residents

  • Individual looking to file personal income tax only


WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR FREE TAX APPOINTMENT

REQUIRED: Identification (must have or we can not do your taxes)

  • Valid government issued photo ID

  • Social Security Card for each person to be listed on the tax return (if Social Security card not available, other document issued by Social Security Administration such as SSA1099 that shows name and social security number.

  • Last year’s tax return (Not mandatory, but preferred).

  • A blank check or other document showing bank routing number and account number if you want direct deposit of refund.

Please know that even if we did your taxes last year and the preparer remembers you, the volunteer still has to see your identification or we risk being shut down by the IRS! It’s for your protection and our tax sites will be strictly enforcing this policy.

Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance Information:

  • If you have Marketplace insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA), bring your form 1095-A.

Income Documentation

  • W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-SSA and 1099-G Forms from all employers and income sources such as unemployment or Social Security

  • Proof of income from jury duty, gambling, cash to keys – anything reported to you on form 1099-MISC

  • Documentation of any other income such as prizes, awards, scholarships, fellowships, lottery or gambling winnings

If You Itemize Your Deductions Bring All Related Expense Documents

  • Child or dependent care expenses including the provider’s address and Federal ID#

  • Mortgage Company Statements /Mortgage Interest

  • Adoption Expenses

  • Alimony paid or received

  • Documentation from a home purchase

  • Any notices received from the IRS

  • Property tax bills

  • College tuition and student loan interest statements

  • Medical Expenses

  • Real Estate Tax Statements

  • Sales Tax Statements

  • Charitable Contributions Receipts

  • Bring receipts for any Energy Efficient Windows, Air conditioning units or other energy efficient property installed in 2018 and 2019.

Please note that if you are self-employed and have employees, we are not able to do your taxes, we cannot prepare returns with rental income and if married filing jointly, BOTH SPOUSES MUST BE PRESENT to sign the return.
